Exception Details

Reservations cannot be removed because there is work created which relies on the reservations.

This is a common error that users will encounter if they attempt to disassociate an order line from existing work. It does not matter if the work is in an open or closed state.

Solution

When an order has been dispatched to the warehouse for order picking, work is created in AX/D365 F &O.

There is a work-inventory-transaction that exists, linking the order line to a work ID.

If you attempt to break the relationship between the work and the order line, then you will get this error message.

You will get this error if you try a number of different operations such as:

  • Attempting to pick directly from the order line after the order has been released to the warehouse.
  • Attempting to remove the reservation from the sales order line if there is a relationship to an open work, in process work, closed work, or any "closed container picking work".

  • Here are somethings you can do to get yourself out of this situation, and get past this error:
    1. If the work is still open, then cancel the work. This solution is applicable to outbound work that is not "closed container picking work".
    2. If the work is in-process, then you have to complete the work, and bring the items all the way to to final shipping location (picked), so the load line quantity changes to picked. However, do not confirm the shipment or load. Once the items are at the final shipping location, simply go to the load and perform a "Reduce picked quantity" transaction.
    3. If the work has been completed, and at the packing station. Pack and continue processing the items so they go all the way to the final shipping location (picked). Once the items are at the final shipping location, simply go to the load and perform a "Reduce picked quantity" transaction.
    4. If the work is completed and the items are at the final shipping location, then go to the load and perform a "Reduce picked quantity" transaction.
    5. It may be necessary to reduce the load line quantity depending on the challenge you are facing. For example, if you want to reroute inventory from one Sales Order and Load to another, then you definitely should reduce the load line quantity on the initial load.
    6. After doing so, you can go back to the original sales order and change the "Reserved Physical" quantity - or remove it all together, if you do not wish to fulfill the original sales order at this time.
    7. Note, you cannot perform these steps if your shipment has already been Confirmed and your packing slip has been posted.
    8. If your shipment been confirmed but the pack list has not been posted, then you can use the relatively new feature that is available on the Load: Reverse shipment confirmation.
